The Dual Faces of Narcissism: Friends and Family

Narcissistic people can be very concerned with how others see them so work hard to maintain a positive image in public. They present themselves as congenial and favourable as it helps them receive admiration and validation, and boosts their self esteem. They can be loyal, kind and caring to some, and dismissive and cruel to others. This disparity in their behaviour can be confusing to those who witness both sides of the their personality. This video looks at the different motivations behind their different behaviours, and in particular, why the can be devoted and loyal to their families yet abusive and neglectful to their partners.
