The Battle of Kursk marked the largest tank battle in history and was pivotal in halting Hitler's offensive power on the Eastern Front. Soviet forces employed a strategy of attrition to weaken the Germans, despite Hitler’s insistence on attacking. Von Manstein achieved a significant victory at Kharkov, temporarily halting Soviet advances. Soviet General Zhukov, a key strategist, planned and executed the defense of Stalingrad and later led the counteroffensive at Kursk. During the Allied Bombing Campaign, the British and Americans employed area bombing strategies to weaken German morale, targeting major cities like Hamburg. Day and night bombing raids inflicted significant damage, although they sparked controversy due to civilian casualties.
