Testing a copper pipe cleaner - it didn't go well
There are lots of videos showing these things working. But they often have jump-cuts in the video to hide that fact that they didn't work very well. The online reviews are also very mixed. Maybe there are good and bad ones.
I got a set of these from eBay to try after a frustrating experience with a short and inaccessible pipe covered in stubborn paint. I ended up just sanding gently for ages with an abrasive strip and a mirror to get to clean smooth copper.
When they arrived I was quite excited until I tried them. But at best they slightly polished pipe that was already quite clean.
The idea seems sound though, but I think it really needs to be engineered well with accurate sizing and bristles of just the right strength and angle.
Quite neat the bristle pads are made though, with pre-folded staples punched through a plastic strip and then folded slightly.
I think the original hand made units may have used the existing bristle pads from the hand-held version put into a machined cup. If it works then it would be very handy in a right angle cordless drill for cleaning pipes with poor access.
