Like Mars, Venus was once a vastly different place. According to data gathered by various missions, it is believed that until 700 million years ago, Venus was a warm and wet planet where oceans covered 80% of the surface. This is actually close to what scientists thought Venus was like until the Soviet Venera and NASA Mariner probes revealed what a hellish place it is today.
