Reading the tape can consist of many different things, but the two main components are the level 2 & time and sales. Level 2 shows the order book or the liquidity of bids (buyers) or ask (sellers) Level 2 shows all the passive limit orders on the market Time and Sales shows completed transactions. On ThinkorSwim red on the time and sales does not mean a sell order and green does not mean a buy order. Reading the tape is VERY important to gauge volume/buyers seller interest at an important reference area on a chart.
