SuperTune! The Lie-Nielsen Block Plane - Part 2
Hello Everyone! This is Episode 27 and is Part 2 of the Lie-Nielsen Block Plane SuperTune. There’s a lot of little processes in this video which fall into the “marginal gains” category. I’m thinking it must come from my pilot background. Pilots are forever trying to get better and better and safer and safer and this means a constant effort and a constant flow of tiny improvements. Then you retire! Anyway, this isn’t flying, so you don’t have to do it all. Even just polishing the working surfaces with the autosol or honing compound then waxing will show some improvement. Of course the biggest gain comes in sharpening the blade properly. I hope you like it and will give it a go. I think it was worth it. Please comment if you wish. Video Production Notes: The time taken to make Episodes 26 and 27 combined was 86 hours, spread over 32 sessions. Each session averaged 2 hours 45 minutes. I’m quite pleased with that as that means I’ve been pretty relentless at getting in the Workshop every weekday morning and staying there! It’s been 52 days since the Marking Gauge video so that means only 20 days where I had other commitments, mostly just weekends. Production is averaging just over 2 hours per minute of finished video. The vast majority of this time is taken up with set up, filming process and then editing; mostly editing. Fortunately, I’m loving learning about editing! Actually doing the work on the plane adds up to probably no more than a few sessions. Watch out for episode 28! I’m pretty sure I’m on to something interesting regarding creating a curved edge… Best Wishes, Jim Linn
