The USS Balao (SS-285) plays the part of submarine that has had a fire aboard and is now stuck on the sea floor. Some trapped crew members make individual emergency buoyant ascents via the escape trunk. In the meantime, the submarine rescue ship USS Skylark (ASR-20), rushes to the scene and uses its Rescue Bell (RC14) to evacuate the remainder of the crew.
