Stone Soap Rocks Cold Process Soap Making | Soap Challenge Club
These are some of the stone soaps that I created as a participant in the River Rock & Marble Natural Stone Techniques Soap Challenge Club last month. I failed to get my entry posted in time, but I thought I’d share the video anyway. Thank you so much for watching, liking, & subscribing! - Holly :) ••• LINKS MENTIONED ••• Soap Challenge Club Website: http://soapchallengeclub.com/ Instagram: https://bit.ly/2WvLXqZ Facebook: https://bit.ly/3abVI1u 00:00 Intro 01:04 Colorants 01:22 Blending Oils & Lye 02:10 Dividing, Coloring, Fragrance 04:24 Pouring 07:30 Unmolding ••• SAFETY INFO ••• Remember to always wear safety glasses and gloves when making soap. Every little bit helps, though, so thank you very much if you do! :) ••• RECIPE ••• Total recipe weight = 900g (filled exactly 12 rock silicone cavities) I based my recipe on the River Rock Category soap recipe provided to us in the Soap Challenge Club tutorial. Superfat: 5% Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) & Distilled Water: 35% lye solution (Lye Concentration = 35% if using Soap Calc) Water = 1.9 x NaOH If you're a beginner, I listed an article above on understanding water discounts & lye solution. If you'd rather use more water, try a 33% lye concentration (water = 2 x NaOH). However, you may need to leave the soaps in the mold longer so they unmold without being too soft. Use a soap calculator like the one at Majestic Mountain Sage (https://bit.ly/2ABEluj) or Soap Calc (https://bit.ly/3hmGMAB) to calculate the amount of sodium hydroxide required for your recipe. SALT: 1/2 teaspoon per 450g oil in recipe - dissolved in the distilled water BEFORE adding the NaOH Note: I forgot to mention in the video that I did add a little salt to the distilled water (so the soaps harden faster and are easier to unmold sooner). I added the salt to the water, stirred until it dissolved, then proceeded with adding the NaOH as normal. If you add the salt after adding the NaOH, I find it will not dissolve. Essential oil blend for fragrance (probably my most requested scent ever): Lavender - 4 parts Lavandin - 2 parts Cedarwood - 3 parts Patchouli - 0.5 parts For help determining how much essential oil to use based on your recipe: https://www.eocalc.com/ by Modern Soapmaking White Kaolin Clay usage rate - 1 teaspoon per 450g oil in recipe ••• NOTE: Amazon & Nurture Soap Links are AFFILIATE Links ••• ••• WHERE I PURCHASED INGREDIENTS ••• Oils & Butters - Soaper’s Choice Sodium Hydroxide - https://amzn.to/3digUEU Essential Oils - Camden Grey White Kaolin Clay - Mad Micas Indigo Root Powder - Botanical Colors Activated Charcoal - https://amzn.to/3cnpMZg Pink/Rose Kaolin Clay - https://bit.ly/3gtdZdC Orange Illite Clay - Symphony Scents ••• SOME OF MY SOAP MAKING EQUIPMENT ••• List of everything: http://amzn.to/2DZmGfJ Silicone Stone Molds - https://amzn.to/3k8adZt Eye protection - http://amzn.to/2DPaKd9 Gloves - hard to find the ones I used - try kitchen dishwashing gloves Scale - http://amzn.to/2woRyUs Mini Ball Mason Jars - https://amzn.to/2OUydAA Stainless measuring spoons - http://amzn.to/2W5ENWY Glass Mixing Bowl - https://amzn.to/3jv8Wey IR Thermometer - https://amzn.to/2UYQ1hI 12 Cup Stainless Pot - https://amzn.to/2ynelhA 8 Cup Stainless Pot - https://amzn.to/2YAsLcW Waring 7” Quik Stik Immersion Blender - http://amzn.to/2j2vgMf Glass beakers with handles - https://amzn.to/2QvZdJ1 Spatula Spoon - https://amzn.to/3hLQ7TO Small silicone spoons (8.5”) - http://amzn.to/2Kp2GXX Funnel Measuring Cups - https://amzn.to/2EQIxFv Disposable pipettes - https://amzn.to/2xhfRo2 ••• VIDEO EQUIPMENT ••• https://amzn.to/2UYMlfU ••• WHERE TO FIND ME ONLINE ••• YouTube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/kapiamerasoapcompany Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/kapiamerasoap Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/kapiamerasoap Blog: http://kapiamera.blog ••• MUSIC INFO ••• Music by Epidemic Sound (http://www.epidemicsound.com) #soapmaking #soapchallengeclub #soapstones Note: I make soapmaking videos just for fun and to share my little bit of soapmaking knowledge with others.
