Splice Your Own Double Braid Dock Lines
This How-to video demonstrates how we spliced our own dock or mooring lines from 16mm double-braided line. Our dock lines were getting pretty worn so we bought 26 meters of 16mm black double braided line in bulk, which we cut in half giving us two 13 meter lines. After splicing an eye loop and whipping the ends, we saved a bunch of money and had a lot of fun making our own custom dock/mooring lines. (Whipping rope is not a part of this video, but if you'd like a rope whipping How-to let me know.) Having the chandler splice our lines would have cost more than the line itself. In the end we spent about 75% less than pre-spliced dock line. We missed the weather window for an Atlantic crossing in 2020, so we’re trying to stay in the Med-area until November 2021 when the Atlantic crossing weather window returns. We are now sailing in Greece, and we hope you enjoy the video!
