SOAP CHALLENGE: MAKING THE PEACOCK SWIRL - Cold Process Soap
The Peacock Swirl is a marbling technique that's been featured in several of the Soap Challenges from a few years ago. For this design, I based the color palette of "arctic glacier" with bright blue, teal, white and black using a couple of my favorite micas from Nurture Soap - Klein Blue and Caribbean Blue. The fragrance oil, Frosted Fir, was from Brambleberry. One of the most critical parts of creating this pattern is finding the right soap recipe (see below) and well behaved fragrance oil that allows a long slow light trace. After blending to emulsion, I had stirred each of the colorants for at least 15 minutes until the right trace was formed to allow me to pour in thin lines without the colors bleeding into each other. Another pointer is to not spoon any additional batter into the mold not the surface as you need to have each of the colored batters forming distinct lines to create the final peacock design. Because of the dark, contrasting colors, I was also sure to spray 99% isopropyl alcohol on the surface during CPOP to reduce/prevent soda ash from forming. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did.
