SIP Raised Beds + How to Winterize Self-Watering Planters & Totes
This is my end-of-year update on caring for your sub-irrigated self watering wicking bed. In the Fall time, you can start to prepare your planters and containers for the Winter before things start to freeze. Once your garden vegetables have been killed off by frosts, it's time to pull them out and compost them. But with SIP containers, since they have water reservoirs, you may be concerned about them freezing in the cold of Winter. I'll show you a couple quick tips for covering them and also for draining any smaller SIP totes or buckets that you may have. Have you ever seen worms living in your self-watering beds or planters? It's a great, natural way to maximize your growth results. Also, are these containers even "self-watering" in the 1st place? Not only do I discuss this, but I offer a suggestion on how you can use a float valve to truly automate your water system! I meant to release this sooner but global warming / climate change has been in full swing. My pepper plants survived FIVE weeks later than usual!!!
