Looking Back, Looking Forward: 100 Years of the Arab-Israeli Conflict, a conference hosted by the Crown Center for Middle East Studies at Brandeis University in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Nov. 2, 1917 signing of the Balfour Declaration, a landmark document that called for the establishment of a national home for Jewish people. One hundred years after the Balfour Declaration, what are the futures of Israel and Palestine? The conference brought together top scholars and public figures as they debated what kind of states should Israelis and Palestinians seek and how these competing visions inform their approach to the conflict. Opening remarks by Shai Feldman, Judith and Sidney Swartz Director of the Crown Center for Middle East Studies and Professor of Politics at Brandeis University. Jehuda Reinharz is former president of Brandeis University, director of the Tauber Institute, and president of the Mandel Foundation. Abdel Monem Said Aly is a Senior Fellow at the Crown Center and also the Chairman of Al-Masry Al-Youm, a leading Arabic language daily newspaper in Egypt.
