Mendes recorded more than 35 albums, many of which went gold or platinum in the US; and received an Oscar nomination in 2012 for co-writing the song Real in Rio from the animated film Rio. The pianist-singer of bossa nova Sergio Mendes is back in the picture thanks to rapper Will.i.am of the urban pop collective the Black Eyed Peas. The rapper restyled Mendes' bossa and samba repertoire for Timeless, a CD that contained cheerful contributions from soul and hip-hop stars like Erykah Badu, Stevie Wonder and John Legend. This is continued on its successor Encanto (released in June this year). The album includes catchy Brazilian melodies, including new versions of Antonio Carlos Jobim's songs, as well as international jazz influences. Again Mendes worked with well-known singers: Natalie Cole, Jovanotti, Juanes and Ledisi. Welcome to the official North Sea Jazz Archive!
