Selma 60th Anniversary
60 years ago today, hundreds of activists courageously marched across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, fighting for Black Americans' right to vote. Their unwavering commitment to justice was instrumental in the passage of the Voting Rights Act, proving the immense power of ordinary people coming together to create lasting change. To encourage the next generation of leaders to pick up the baton of change, the exterior of the Obama Presidential Center Museum will feature words from President Obama’s speech commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery marches. The quote that will be embedded into the structure of the building draws a meaningful line between the history that made the Obamas’ story possible and the ongoing work the Obama Foundation is doing to inspire the next generation of changemakers.
