Meanwhile, the war continues unabated on four-fifths of Rhodesian soil with innocent blacks suffering in the cross-fire between government soldiers and nationalist guerrillas. The air of uncertainty is worrying settlers, who are growing less hopeful of a peaceful outcome and buying guns "just in case".
