Rosalie Reborn
Rosalie is a 2 foot gauge diesel locomotive from the Bennett Brook Railway, located in Whiteman Park, north east of Perth in Western Australia. She has just had a major overhaul, being fitted with another engine, transmission and wheels - and a new paint scheme. She is now undergoing trial running to make final adjustments before returning her to active service. Here she is, on Sunday 30 January 2022, where we join her on one of her trial runs, firstly travelling the Bushland Loop before going down to Mussel Pool and returning back to the main station, Whiteman Village Junction. Note the dry Australian bushland of high summer. It has a beauty all of its own, different to the "hysterical green" (as one English fellow described it) of our winters.
For the technically minded, for my videos I use two hand held cameras; a Sony FDR-AX53 Handicam for the trackside work, and a DJI Pocket 2 gimbal camera (which I call my "electric toothbrush" because of its shape) for all on-board videos, except for one shot approaching Zamia Station. The AX53 has excellent stabilization, but as you can see when you watch the video, is nowhere near as effective as the Pocket 2, which had its genesis in DJI drone cameras. I do not shoot in 4K, but use XAVC-S 1920x1080P, (BluRay quality) because my equipment cannot handle any resolution higher than 1080P. (An older generation widescreen TV and Laptop computer) All my videos shot before 2017 were done on a Sony HDR-XR500, a very good camera which shoots at 1920x1080 50i, and is therefore not as high resolution or steady as my current equipment. I render my videos using Cyberlink Powerdirector 12, upgraded for Bluray, on my 10 year old gaming laptop which runs at 2.3Ghz, and has 16Gb Ram. This video, "Rosalie Reborn" was rendered at 1920x1080 50P AVCHD at 28MBS (I live in a PAL country where we use 50fps, not 60fps NTSC as in the USA)
