Restoring an Amati copy violin Part 2: Using the plaster cast to fix the top plate arching
This is the 2nd part in this series on restoring an Amati copy violin. Having made the plaster cast, I now reshape the cast to create a form in which I can correct the misaligned arching of the violin top. As I explained in Part 1, this was necessary because on a previous restoration the violin was glued back together incorrectly. This video includes lots of real-time detail about these painstaking processes and I appreciate your patience! All comments and questions are welcome, big or small :) Thanks for watching and I do hope you stay tuned for the next instalment. Cheers, Paul :) Email: [email protected] Contents 00:00 Shaping the plaster cast to create a form 14:53 Testing the top plate in the form 16:16 Re-broken top plate in the form 18:06 Fitting clamping blocks to the top plate 22:16 Re-glueing the top plate back together 25:17 Clamping the top plate 28:20 Removing clamps after glueing 29:25 Arching repair reveal!
