Restoration of a Legendary .177 cal. Air Gun – The Warrior from 1930s
Join me as I restore a rare and legendary air gun from the 1930s – the Accles & Shelvoke “Warrior” .177. This forgotten masterpiece is brought back to life after nearly a century of wear, rust, and damage.
🔧 ABOUT THE AIR GUN
This incredible piece of history was kindly donated by one of my subscribers in Canada (huge thanks to Glenn!). Made in Birmingham, UK, by Accles & Shelvoke Ltd, this “Warrior” model was produced between 1931–1939. Patent No's: BRIT 351268 / USA 538057.
🛠️ THE RESTORATION PROCESS
When I received the pistol, it was in rough shape—completely rusted, cracked handle, missing grip and trigger guard, and a badly fixed trigger. Here's what I did:
Fully disassembled the pistol (fighting through layers of rust)
- Sandblasted all major parts using fine glass beads at low pressure
- TIG welded and reshaped the damaged handle
- Crafted new grips from beautiful Asian walnut
- Removed heavy pitting with 1000-grit sandpaper and polished the metal to a shine
- Rebuilt the trigger mechanism and hand-made a new trigger guard
- Fully reassembled and tested the pistol in my garage
This was a very cool restorations. I really like repairing old weapons.
