Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM): A Case Study
MAINSTREAM Masterclass
Presented by Nancy Regan, The Force (USA)
This presentation is a real-world, Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) case study. On a recent 400-mile journey in her 2014 Subaru Forrester, the author experienced an unanticipated failure with her boxer engine's lubrication system that interrupted the trip. The situation could have been avoided if she had proactively managed one Failure Mode. Instead, she was thrown into full-blown Reactive Mode. This event is deconstructed into an RCM case study that highlights a vital – yet commonly overlooked – maintenance concept. The presentation presents an overview of the RCM process using a real-world scenario with a focus on Condition Based Maintenance (CBM). It demonstrates how organisations can start getting out of Reactive Mode and how they can begin working towards proactively improving equipment Reliability by applying the basics of Maintenance and Reliability through RCM.
