Red Tails
The Tuskegee Airmen were a group of primarily African American military pilots (fighter and bomber) and airmen who fought in World War II. They formed the 332nd Fighter Group and the 477th Bombardment Group (Medium) of the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF). The Tuskegee airmen received praise for their excellent combat record earned while protecting American bombers from enemy fighters. The group was awarded three Distinguished Unit Citations.
When the pilots of the 332nd Fighter Group painted the tails of their P-47s red, the nickname "Red Tails" was coined. The red markings that distinguished the Tuskegee Airmen included red bands on the noses of P-51s as well as a red empennage; the P-51B, C and D Mustangs flew with similar color schemes, with red propeller spinners, yellow wing bands and all-red tail surfaces.
The Tuskegee Airmen were the first African-American military aviators in the United States Armed Forces.
Lyrics:
In a time of shadows, a war-soaked night,
Brave souls took to the heavens, ready for the fight.
From Tuskegee's halls, they rose with pride,
Determined and fierce, side by side.
Oh, the Red Tails flying high,
With courage that lit up the sky,
Through storms and thunder, they held their ground,
Tuskegee Airmen, legends renowned.
Facing the fire, they soared like dreams,
Protecting our freedom in powerful streams.
With red-tailed fighters, they made their mark,
In the heart of battle, igniting a spark.
Oh, the Red Tails flying high,
With courage that lit up the sky,
Through storms and thunder, they held their ground,
Tuskegee Airmen, legends renowned.
Distinguished with honor, they shattered the mold,
Three Distinguished Citations, their story told.
Wings of resilience, hearts full of might,
Together they conquered, united in flight.
Their engines roared, like thunder’s call,
Brothers in arms, they stood tall.
Through enemy lines, they forged a path,
With skill and valor, they faced the wrath.
Oh, the Red Tails flying high,
With courage that lit up the sky,
Through storms and thunder, they held their ground,
Tuskegee Airmen, legends renowned.
So here’s to the brave who dared to try,
With red on their tails, they reached for the sky.
In history's pages, their legacy thrives,
Tuskegee Airmen, forever alive.
Oh, the Red Tails flying high,
With courage that lit up the sky,
Through storms and thunder, they held their ground,
Tuskegee Airmen, legends renowned.
Oh, the Red Tails flying high,
With courage that lit up the sky,
Through storms and thunder, they held their ground,
Tuskegee Airmen, legends renowned.
Song belongs to me.
