It is a traditional Persian instrument that is said to be thousands of years old. It belongs to the group of hammered dulcimers which we can find spread all over the globe. In traditional Persian music it is actually played quite differently than I demonstrate here: I developed my own style with a "Westernized" tuning, playing in a meditative, rhythmic and melodic way - very suitable for Meditation, Yoga practice, enjoying time and nature or as beautifully inspiring background music.
