Her films have been broadcast on Al Jazeera, the Sundance Channel, TeleSur, Russia Today, Press TV and other networks and won more than 30 international awards.... which hasn’t stopped Peruvian authorities from censoring them. She is currently working with Kukama indigenous communities in the Amazon rainforest on a film about the struggle to protect their river and the spirit world below. Rosa Galvez, originally from Peru, is one of Canada’s leading experts in pollution control and its effect on human health. She has a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from McGill University and was a professor at Université Laval à Québec for over 25 years, heading the Civil and Water Engineering Department from 2010 to 2016. She specializes in water and soil decontamination, waste management and residues, sustainable development, environmental impact assessments, and climate risk to infrastructure. Yenny Vega Cárdenas, Doctor of Law and lawyer, is president and co-founder of the International Observatory of the Rights of Nature, as well as a member of the network of experts of the United Nations Harmony with Nature programme. Recipient of the Coronation Medal of King Charles III for her exceptional contribution to the protection of Nature in Canada, she played a key role in the recognition of the rights and legal personality of the Magpie River, a historic first in Canada. The titular people who live by, with, and from the Marañón River in Peru face environmental threat and cultural genocide from extractive international companies plundering the region. KARUARA is an unforgettable testament to their lives and struggles. Video shot and edited by Joys Sepkon.
