On May 22, 1987, President Ronald Reagan delivered a speech at the Memorial Service for the USS Stark, a frigate that had been attacked by an Iraqi missile while on patrol in the Persian Gulf. The tragedy resulted in the loss of 37 American lives and left many more injured. In his remarks, President Reagan paid tribute to the bravery of the sailors onboard the Stark and expressed his condolences to their families.
