In this episode of DomoNaut, I sit down with the Interim Director and Associate Marketing Manager to talk about the tumultous history and intentional design of the Pope-Leighey House.
Built in 1940 for Loren and Charlotte Pope, it is the second smallest Frank Lloyd Wright designed house, and the only one in Virginia open to the public.
The house's second owner, Marjorie Leighey, saved it from sure demolition in 1960s when route I-66 was expanding, and moved the house to the Woodlawn property with the help of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
