PM Lawrence Wong at WEF: On global turbulence, “flexible multilateralism” & balancing US-China ties
Countries should respond to weakening global norms by promoting integration, breaking down barriers and strengthening multilateralism, said Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting of the New Champions in Tianjin on Wednesday (Jun 25).
Speaking during a dialogue with WEF president Borge Brende, Mr Wong talked about how small states like Singapore can remain relevant in a world increasingly shaped by the erosion of global norms, weakening multilateralism and rising economic protectionism. He also shared perspectives on Singapore’s unique role as a bridge between major powers such as the United States and China, along with the city-state’s strategic investments in digital trade and sustainability.
