Gala Concert on the occasion of the Maestro's 80th birthday. Born in Montbrison/France in 1925, Pierre Boulez is one of the most distinguished composers and conductors in the world today. Through his own compositions and his activities as an author, teacher, and advocate of contemporary music, he has made a decisive contribution to the development of music in the twentieth century. On 27 March in 2005, one day after his 80th birthday, Pierre Boulez performs Mahler's 2nd Symphony with the Staatskapelle Berlin at the Philharmonie.
