The dead hang and active hang are excellent exercises for shoulder and spine health and I would recommend them to almost anyone. However, they aren't the best hang for shoulder heal, the active arch hang (the swan hang) is a progression from the dead hang and active hang that brings more muscles into the mix. It's perfect for undoing the damage caused by slouched posture and forward rolled shoulders.
