Old Putty Knife into Kiridashi | Hand Tool Transformation
In this restoration video, I am transforming an old putty knife into a kiridashi knife. https://allflavorworkshop.com/ ► Subscribe to AllFlavor Workshop: https://bit.ly/2T9cIxD For a change, I decided to make a tool transformation video and experiment a little bit with knife making and turn the knife into a kiridashi alike knife. I got the putty knife for a 1$ at a flea market. The tool was rusty and overall in quite a bad shape. The blade is thin quite bendable and great for cutting leather and leather crafts. OLD PUTTY KNIFE INTO KIRIDASHI | HAND TOOL TRANSFORMATION In the beginning, I used water electrolysis made of an old notebook power adapter to remove most of the rust. I cut the rough shape of the kiridashi knife using a cutting wheel. Afterward used a round and flat file to make the exact shape of the knife. Further cleaning, sanding, and polishing were handled by sanding discs and sandpapers in various grits ranging from 120 to 600. I used a flat file to make the blade and a whetstone for its sharpening. Before the assembly, I oiled both the wooden and the metal parts to prevent the kiridashi knife from future rusting. This was one of the restoration/tool transformation projects I had the most fun with. The project is quite simple you don't need special equipment to do that (electrolysis can be replaced by hand sanding or a de-rusting solution) and as for the kiridashi knife bendable blade is perfectly applicable for cutting leather. I like to create repair and bring old tools and appliances back to life and inspire others to create something with their own hands. Hopefully, I inspired you and could help with your projects. Creating is fun!
