In this Skill Builder tutorial we will be installing a zipper with no tabs and sewing a simple lined pencil case (measurements provided, no need to print a pattern). This style of zipper allows for a wider opening pouch, and can be an easier method of zipper installation as it relies less on having the correct length of zipper. This pencil case pattern does not require top stitching, though we will be under stitching our linings. It is an extremely fast, beginner friendly pattern and great for batch sewing and market preparation. The finished size is 8" wide by 3.75" tall (20.3cm x 9.5 cm)
My exterior and lining fabrics are quilting weight cotton woven. My exterior is from Cotton and Twirls Custom Fabric and is interfaced with profuse from Wawak and stabilised with fusible Thermolam Plus. My lining is Kona quilting cotton interfaced with Pellon p44f non-woven fusible interfacing. The fabric in the cover photo is Mon Cheri by Riley Blake, I purchased mine from My Handmade Space.
Measurements:
Exterior - 9" wide x 8" long (22.9 cm x 20.3 cm)
