The Combat Action Ribbon was originally awarded in 1969 but is retroactive to the Second World War. The Coast Guard Combat Action Ribbon was authorized in July 2008. It is awarded to members of the Coast Guard who have participated in ground or maritime combat. Prior to 2008 Guard received the Navy and Marine Corps Combat Action Ribbon.
