My ✨sustainable✨ weekly Korean language learning routine | 🇰🇷
To be honest, this isn’t my first time self-studying a language, but it is indeed the first time I’ve been so consistent (for 6 months actually!) because I’ve finally found an approach that works for me, and wanted to share it with you guys :) Although this is a video on learning Korean, I am positive you can employ these same approaches to any other language you may be studying. - my target language: Korean 🇰🇷 - my current level: probably intermediate http://instagram.com/_caddberrie [email protected] --------------------------- ⌛Timestamps: 0:00 Intro 0:55 Overall approach to language learning 2:02 On today's agenda Compound exercises 2:52 Grammar coursebook + workbook 5:48 On babies acquiring their mother tongue 7:26 Podcasts (for listening and pronunciation) 11:03 Reading routine Accessory exercises 13:31 More listening, reading novels 14:27 Media: interviews, TV shows 16:21: Purely for entertainment: Kpop, Kdrama, reality TV 17:39: Summary 19:15: Final evaluation of routine 20:41: Closing thoughts --------------------------- https://youtu.be/JJcWV__C_SU?si=Dl3MdfbWPaEdrAWD https://youtu.be/XaUeSJ4TDnM?si=lGdUlb0BRSWNY0D5 https://youtu.be/hvPVZyyJT9Y?si=ATO07XTj1FTEow7c 🫐 My overall approach to building a sustainable language learning routine: - Something challenging enough for you to make progress, but not so much that it becomes discouraging. - It must be fun (and what you consider ‘fun’ will likely change over time, so don’t be afraid to switch things up every now and then) - Can accomodate other things going on in my life. - Using 1 resource in a few different ways, to keep myself entertained by targeting slightly different skills while still reaping the benefits of repetition. --------------------------- 🏋️‍♀️ Main compound exercises (each week, try to choose a main topic for all 3 parts. That way, you get the most out of your material) 📚 Grammar coursebook + workbook: targets all skills pretty much equally; provides a structure for me to work with 📻 Podcasts: 1. Choose a podcast whose style you’d like to mimic 2. Listen once and enjoy 3. Listen again, search up new words via pictures, sample sentences 4. Shadow for pronunciation + intonation (with audio) 5. Read the subs aloud (without audio) 6. Writing output: short comment or summary 💡 Reading 1. Read aloud: practice sounding out the words 2. Handwrite it out (to target spelling, legible handwriting, and to ponder why certain sentences are built the way they are) 3. Type it up (to target touch-typing) 🎳Accessory exercises - can be tailored to your liking week by week - more podcasts (just listening, no extra activities) - reading novels - writing diary entries 📝 - watching interviews or talk shows 🎙️ - music and movies 🎧 --------------------------- Resources *Mentioned interview: https://youtu.be/8oL03cm1kMc?si=bEdhv1tFmDuE1Qb2 📚 Grammar coursebook + workbook: Seoul National University curriculum https://www.twoponds.co.kr/en/snu (* You can order physical versions off of Amazon or any Korean textbook shop in your country. This was what I did at first. I don't think there are e-versions for sale in general though. Then I found pdf versions (scanned?) on VKontakte (a Russian social media website). In Google's search bar, type VK + [name of book]. It's easier to find the book you need this way than searching directly in VK).
