My first carpenter experience. Making of lounge chair MR01.
After I built my open-sided container wood workshop, I chose this one as my first serious project as a carpenter.
This chair was designed by Mathias Rasmussen. I've seen it many times and like it a lot. It looks like he was inspired by Borge Mogensen's The Hunter Chair and the work of other guys from a Scandinavian school. Anyway, Mathias did a great job giving a new breath to old stuff. And I decided to give me a chance to make it.
I chose white oak as a base and some ebony for wedges.
So, right now, I am sure to say it wasn't as easy as I expected initially. Different angles, mortises and tenons, wedges, 80 meters (262 feet) of cotton rope, and many additional jigs and fixtures had to be done. It took time, but I think I managed it.
Making this video turned out to be definitely not easier than making this chair. 🙂
I'm thinking of a new video about making my container workshop. Oh, and I have much more footage waiting for me.
