My brother's wife dumped their kids on me every afternoon while she went to the gym saying, you have no excuse not to help. My parents agreed, calling me ungrateful when I refused, so I moved out and stopped paying their bills. A month later, they called furious because I never thought the people closest to me would take advantage of me so badly that I'd have no choice but to walk away.

But that's exactly what happened. And when I finally stood up for myself, let's just say they never saw it coming. I'm 28 m, and for the last few years I've been living with my parents. It wasn't because I was struggling. I had a solid job in it, worked remotely and made good money, but my parents had been going through some financial troubles and since I wasn't in a rush to get my own place, I stayed to help.
I paid rent, covered groceries, and even took care of a good chunk of their mortgage. They never had to ask. I just did it because, well, they're my parents. It was the right thing to do. My older brother Nathan, 35 male, had never been expected to do the same. He was the golden child, the one who could do no wrong no matter what he did.
Growing up, I was always lazy because I liked video games. But Nathan, Nathan was independent and strong-willed, even though he made one bad decision after another. He had a wife, Sarah, 32 female and two kids, Jake, seven male and Sophie four female. I liked my niece and nephew, but I had no interest in being a babysitter.
I never had, that didn't seem to matter to Sarah. It started small. She'd asked me to watch them for just a little while so she could run an errand. I didn't mind at first. I figured, fine, no big deal. But then a little while turned into hours. Then it became a regular thing. At first, she'd at least text and ask.
Then she started texting after she had already left them with me. Then she stopped asking altogether. One day. I was in the middle of work, literally on a Zoom call when my doorbell rang. I ignored it at first, thinking whoever it was would go away. Then I got a text. Kids are at the door, be back in a few hours.
I was stunned. By the time I got to the door, Jake and Sophie were standing there and Sarah was already driving away. She didn't even wait to see if I was home. She just dropped them off and left. I was furious after that. I told her straight up, I wasn't watching her kids anymore. I had a job. I had responsibilities.
I wasn't just sitting around doing nothing all day. She rolled her eyes and waved me off like I was being dramatic. You work from home. What's the big deal? The big deal was that I was working. I wasn't just sitting around waiting for her to drop off her kids, but she didn't care. The next day she did it again.
The next, she just dropped them off and leave. Before I could argue, I called my parents expecting them to back me up. Instead, they took her side, why are you making such a big deal out of this? My mom said, she needs help your home. Anyway, I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I'm not free daycare. I shot back.....,
