In this heartfelt comedy, Wilbert Winkle (Edward G. Robinson) leads a predictable life with a stable bank job and a routine marriage to Amy (Ruth Warrick). Longing for something more meaningful, he quits his job to start his own business. However, with World War II raging in the early 1940s, Wilbert's newfound independence is short-lived as he is drafted into the Army. Sent to the Pacific theater, Wilbert teams up with his friend Tinker (Robert Armstrong), and the pair unexpectedly find themselves caught in the chaos of war, testing their courage and resilience.
