MicroK8s - Production-grade, low-footprint K8s for the Edge
MicroK8s is a lightweight, open-source Kubernetes distribution certified by the CNCF. Its robust security features and small footprint make it an excellent choice for IoT use cases. This presentation will highlight its most prominent features, focusing on its suitability for offline and mission-critical deployments. Specifically, we will delve into the following: - The techniques we used to maintain its small footprint without sacrificing any functionality. - How MicroK8s achieves out-of-the-box zero-ops high availability. - The various ways to fine-tune a deployment to match specific needs, including through launch configurations, CAPI deployments, and manual tinkering. - How MicroK8s enhances security through fat packaging, OTA updates, and FIPS/CIS hardening. Additionally, we will present our future roadmap and welcome attendees' feedback to help shape the next steps of MicroK8s. Konstantinos is a Staff Engineer at Canonical, where he has been contributing to open-source software for the Ubuntu ecosystem for over 7 years.
