Welcome back to Tyrrell's Classic Workshop. This episode is a special treat for viewers who've had their curiosity piqued by the sight of a certain ultra-luxury automobile lurking in the background of our previous videos. Today, Iain Tyrrell takes us on an exciting journey with the legendary Mercedes-Benz 600 Grosser (W100), a vehicle synonymous with prestige and technological marvels.
This particular Grosser, though a Right-Hand Drive model, has made its way to us from Germany and is in a rather forlorn state, having not moved under its own power for many years. Iain has not been tasked with a cosmetic makeover this time; instead, his mission is to breathe life back into the mechanical heart of this extraordinary machine.
Known for its status as the most expensive car in the world during its heyday, the W100 exemplifies Mercedes-Benz's reputation for innovation, boasting features such as hydraulic controls for almost every moving part — including windows, boot lid, and seats — and a pneumatically controlled self-levelling suspension system.
In this first instalment of what promises to be a captivating series, Iain and his team tackle the monumental challenge of getting this non-runner back to life. Can they reignite the Grosser's mighty engine after years lying dormant?
Join us to witness the intricate dance of mechanics and marvel at the complexity and grandeur of one of Mercedes-Benz's finest creations.
