Mercedes Benz 508D restoration, Ep4, Cutting off all bottom subframe.
IN THIS EPISODE
This episode is by far the most dramatic one as the whole bottom subframe gets cut out replaced - skills are there, spirits are high, Chuck Norris mode is on - these two think they're invincible :) Joke aside, we do feel pretty confident in what we are doing and we are actually delivering, amazing what this projects has taught us in terms of actual and mental skills. Now we are even thinking - Gees Louise, we could have risen the roof, we could put barn doors on the side, we could have ... :) as I said, spirits are flying high. Enough said, have a look and thanks for watching.
Enjoy
A bit of history ..
We wanted a van with character so we bought a 1979 Mercedes Benz 508D which needed a little body work done - at least that was our idea when we looked at price vs condition vehicles in the market. Our initial plan was to relocate windows, some rust touchup, repaint the van before we would move on to interior build ad set off to fantasy travels, BUT ... gosh we were so naive to think that way! The things we have found guys :) THE THINGS WE HAVE FOUND BY NOW !!! And we would not imagine the things we are going to do to this truck in terms of restoration.
What we did not know was how much rust we will be finding once we strip out the interior and look behind the panels. Our naive plan to sort out the body work in 3 - 4 month time has turned in to a full restoration mode which currently is closing to 2 year anniversary in terms of restoration and gosh how far we have dug in. Restoration is a long and slow process which also means delivering dynamic progress content to YouTube is very challenging. Our current progress and daily updates can be seen in our Instagram Stories and Highlights. YouTube video series will be released but those will require more time for content to be filmed.
