Measuring vertical sextant angles

Using animations, this video explains how to measure vertical sextant angles using the sextant. The vertical sextant angle value can be used to measure the distance of the observer holding the sextant from the object of which the vertical angle is being measured. This technique was used in the past by mariners to safely navigate the ship at sea in absence of sophisticated marine equipment like the radars.
