Matera Mini-Vlog ✨ One night of candles, late night walks and Bond...James, Bond
Matera, in the South of Italy, is a city unlike any other. Considered the third oldest inhabited settlement in the world, this settlement of Stone was once known as the 'Shame of Italy'. In the 1950s, Matera was considered so poor that it's people were actually beginning to be re-homed from the ancient Sassi district, leaving it almost uninhabited for the first time in a thousand years.
Today, it is becoming a tourist haven thanks to its stunning landscape, unique cave architecture, a vote as a European capital of culture AND its position as a location in the latest Bond film. We stayed in this magical place for one night as a stop over between Puglia and Ischia and we couldn't recommend it more highly. It was a sweltering Summer day when we arrived and even a storm rolling through couldn't hamper our style. Dinner, late night walks, exploring the Rock churches and a beautiful Airbnb made Matera unforgettable.
