Making the "Journey" Knife
Today in the shop I am making a new knife that I designed, with characteristics from a Scandinavian puukko, full tang bush craft, and a smaller EDC knife all in mind. I've been thinking about this design for quite a while, and now and feel confident enough in my overall knife making skills that I am ready to test out the design and hopefully put it into small batch production in that fall/winter of 2020-21. I am using 80CrV2 for the full tang blade, white acrylic liners, black dyed stabilized maple, and brass Corby bolts. I had fun using some new knife making toys. I got Blue Dykem, and a Bill Behnke File guide to up my knife making game. I'll show you my process, failures, and success along the way, and if you are interested you can follow along on Instagram, while I test it out over the summer and fall. I'll see what works, and what might need to be changed, and then make a batch for sale by the end of the year.
