Making A Vertical Milling Attachment For The Lathe
G'day everyone,
To kick off the new year proper, I am staring with a new build series that I have been itching to do since I bought the mill. I need to do some light modification to the spindle and quill, but in doing so I won't be able to use the mill to do the modifications.
The work is a bit more precise than what I could ask from a drill press, so I will have to use the lathe. With the new cross slide with t-slots I can now easily mount attachments. And that is the plan. I would like to make a vertical milling attachment and mount it to the cross slide.
Nothing too difficult or complicated. It is probably a one or two time use project so I want to be fairly pragmatic with the design and resources used.
I am still relying on offcuts and left over material from the previous years projects, so not everything will be 100% suited to the job at hand, but I can still make it work.
FYI I did a very similar project a few years ago, that would not be rigid enough for what I need here today and the motor would not have enough torque to do the drilling needed.
