After waiting for what started to feel like forever for my LILYGO T-Desk Plus, it finally arrived. And even though the hardware leaves a bit to be desired, and the current firmware makes very limited use of the hardware that is available, this thing is a total game changer for LoRa APRS. Being able to do tracking and send and receive APRS messages over LoRa on this €/$75 unit opens up a whole new world of opportunities. I never really got hooked on the whole Meshtastic thing. In part because it's kind of a walled garden. But with APRS you get interoperability with the entire world wide APRS infrastructure. So as long as I'm within reach of an iGate I can send and receive messages to and form everyone else who's "on" APRS. Be it via LoRa, VHF, UHF, HF, satellite or even the International Space Station (ISS). I find that immensely more useful than Meshtastic!
So; if you're not on the LoRa APRS wagon yet; don't delay! Get your device (or more likely, devices) today and join in on the fun!
