The work is inspired by Sima Xiang-Ru’s “Fu” (a form of Chinese rhymed prose), “Courtship between Feng and Huang (both are Chinese Phoenix)”. The verse, “Feng roves and roams across the world, only looking for the Huang that it loves”, depicts their touching and heartbreaking love story. The composer compares the two soloists to Feng and Huang, mimicking their flirting, frolicking, and even intense fighting. The piece comprises six sections: A. The inception of their love, B. Feng and Huang, C. Frolicking, D. Tenderness, E. Fighting, and F. Their Love. The approximate performing time is 18 minutes.
