LOGIC PRO X - Mix Volume Considerations
It's a common problem - we open up Logic's Mixer and discover that whilst we can't hear any distortion, the Output track's level display has turned red, to warn us that our mix is overloading. Even more perplexingly, none of the individual tracks are red. What's going on? When the volumes of each of the tracks in our mixes are summed together at the output stage, their volumes are effectively added together, which is why Output channel overload can happen when no individual channel is peaking. The question is, what's the best way to fix the problem? In this video, Jono looks at 3 different ways, from dropping the Master channel output fader (not recommended!) to working with a Gain plug-in at the Output stage, to addressing the issue at the root, by trimming each track's individual volume. He'll also show you how to deal with tracks which are using Volume Automation, which won't take kindly simply to having their fader levels dropped. 00:00 Intro 01:12 Track playback and stereo output overload 02:10 Discussing overload and Logic's inbuilt 'clip limiter' 03:20 Is the Master Channel fader the solution?
