Free Tempo Recording is an interesting feature which allows us to capture MIDI phrases having played them 'off click' and then to ask Logic to use their implied tempo in an assortment of ways. Sometimes, recording to the Metronome can be intimidating or unnecessarily 'fixed'; we want to bring some musicality to a phrase by pushing and pulling at tempo and we don't want the Metronome ticking away and being a distraction. Free Tempo Recording offers a series of modes to allow you to decide how to extract tempo information from a phrase you've played, or impose the project tempo on that phrase, providing an opportunity to collaborate with Logic when it comes to tempo. In this video, Jono will explore the options, carefully explaining the differences and considerations between each approach.
