I've found that being mindful of how close my lines are to one another (line proximity) has enhanced my ability to create folds and waves. This is a good start to how all these elements play with each other. There is a lot to talk about when it comes to technique and abstract line art, and there is no wrong way to do it. Let me know if there are any questions, I would love to answer them.
