Lesson 21 A Prayer before the Cross, Psalm 118

We find ourselves in this lesson looking at an event of our Lord’s, the cross of Calvary which was soon upon Him, an event He not only prepared for but an event He came down to earth for. How did He prepare for such a trial? We know He prepared by leaving heaven to come to earth as a baby; He prepared for the cross by leaving His glory in heaven to become a man with all the frailties that being a man entails; He prepared by preaching the message of the kingdom; He prepared by leaving specific instructions to His disciples and He prepared by praying. We are familiar with most of Christ’s prayers before the cross, especially the one in the Garden of Gethsemane where He asks for the cup to be removed.
