Lecture 06 The Dutch Baroque
ARTH2710 History of Art from the Renaissance
Travis Lee Clark
Utah Valley University
In this lecture we talk about the Golden Age of Dutch Painting and why the Netherlands in the 17th is so unique compared to other regions of the Baroque. We explain how Rembrandt surpasses Caravaggio and the shift from tonality to surface in painting. We also talk about why Dutch Art places more emphasis on Genre or everyday scenes than other countries. You get to hear me squirm while we talk about sexual innuendos and I manage to drop a They Might Be Giants reference. Proost!
