Leak Down Tester built for CHEAP!
In today's video I build a leak down tester using a cheap regulator and gauge from harbor freight, a few 1/4" pipe fittings from Home Depot a couple simple hand tools. Leak down tester is used to determine the condition of the valves, piston rings and head gasket in any internal combustion engine. Watch for an upcoming video use this DIY leak down tester to determine the health of my Ford 289 This was filmed in 2018 so current pricing may be a little higher. *Price Update as of Feb 2024- If you had the compression tester on-hand, all the other parts to build this would cost $23.12 Harbor Freight Parts List Regulator: Central Pneumatic Part # 68223 - $5.99 Gauge: Merlin Part #64104 - $6.99 Quick Connect Kit: Merlin Part# 63566 - $4.99 Epoxy: Part #92665 (dont recommend to use in cold weather!) Teflon Tape: Part#63944, 39625, 61376 - $0.99 If you do not have a compression tester for the hose, this one will work. This is a newer version by Maddox and I cannot attest to the quality. The previous model was junk. Worked ok for small engines (power equipment) but could not create enough pressure for an automotive engine Leak Down Tester: Maddox Part #64918 - $79.99
