Heavy metal contamination in water supplies is a serious health issue even in modern society. This team of Nanotechnology Engineering students designed a microfluidic chip that is capable of isolating and concentrating lead contaminants in a sample. When feeding a conventional lead detection system, the chip improves the sensitivity and reliability of measurements. The fabrication process uses inexpensive materials and techniques, leading to an affordable and mass-producible product.
